Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has reiterated his commitment to fostering peace, inclusive governance, justice, and sustainable development.
In his New Year Address to the citizens of Taraba State, Governor Kefas emphasized his administration’s firm stance against violence, extremism, and criminality, making it clear that no area in Taraba will be left ungoverned or serve as a sanctuary for criminal activities.
The Governor announced that security agencies have been fully empowered and coordinated to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the state.
He identified food security, livestock reforms, and effective land administration as strategic priorities for his government.
“Taraba must achieve sustainable self-sufficiency in food production while responsibly contributing to national food supply.
“Our commitment to modern livestock practices rooted in ranching, robust veterinary services, and conflict prevention alongside transparent and equitable land reforms, will be central to our mandate,” he stated.
Governor Kefas also acknowledged the constitutional authority of the Federal Government over solid minerals but asserted that his administration will not tolerate illegal mining, environmental degradation, or the use of mineral routes to fund insecurity.
He expressed support for collaboration between the state, federal government, and relevant agencies to ensure lawful mining practices that uphold environmental standards, security compliance, and benefit host communities.
The Governor emphasized the need for continued investments in education, infrastructure, healthcare, energy, and grassroots development, with a focus on extending government presence to rural and underserved areas.
Plans to expand Development Areas and enhance local participation in governance were also announced to ensure inclusive growth.
“I will prioritize the revival of cultural initiatives and sports development as instruments for unity, youth engagement, and social cohesion.
“The diversity of Taraba is a strength that should be harnessed for peace and progress,” he remarked.
He urged citizens to rely on verified information and to reject incitement, reiterating that his administration is dedicated to delivery, transparency, and unity.
Governor Kefas proclaimed that 2026 would be a year marked by peace with strength, progress with purpose, and prosperity with inclusion, calling on traditional rulers, religious leaders, farmers, pastoralists, youth, women, professionals, and political leaders to collaborate for the collective advancement of the state.
In conclusion, he reaffirmed his oath to govern justly, protect every life, ensure that no community is left behind, and build a safe, productive, and united Taraba State
