The Senate has officially announced the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This move follows his recent resignation from the opposition party, which he attributed to the PDP’s internal crises and growing instability.
Senator Nwoko criticized the leadership style within the PDP, specifically accusing Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of sidelining him and stifling his ability to function effectively within the party.
His defection was met with thunderous applause as he was escorted to the majority wing of the Senate, according to reports from Channels TV.
In a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Nwoko urged the Senate to establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the deepening crisis within the PDP.
He emphasized the critical need for a strong and viable opposition to maintain Nigeria’s democratic balance and safeguard its political stability.
