The Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development has applauded the appointment and Senate confirmation of General Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence, describing the development as “well deserved” and affirming that he is the “right man for the job.”

In a statement issued by its Executive Director, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, the group commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it termed a strategic and visionary choice, noting that the appointment underscores the President’s commitment to decisively tackling terrorism, banditry, and other security threats confronting the nation.

Dr. Shinkafi, however, called for the removal of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, alleging inadequate experience in managing complex security operations.

He further advocated the scrapping of the office of Minister of State for Defence, describing it as unnecessary and inconsistent with military command structure.

The organisation expressed confidence that with adequate funding, equipment, and motivation, the Armed Forces under General Musa’s leadership will deliver effectively on their constitutional mandate to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Reiterating its commendation, the group stated that General Musa’s elevation reflects his decades-long record of patriotism, professionalism, and integrity.

The group also criticised the previous appointments of Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and Bello Matawalle in the Defence Ministry, arguing that the country requires a seasoned military professional, such as General Musa, to effectively coordinate defence operations amid rising security challenges.

Highlighting the nation’s multifaceted security concerns, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, militancy, secessionist agitation, and kidnapping for ransom, the group urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu and General Musa as they work towards strengthening national security, unity, and stability.

The Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development called on citizens to remain vigilant and cooperative with security agencies to “make Nigeria great again.”
