The Coalition for United Political Parties (CUPP) and Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Delta State chapter, have expressed confidence in the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to sustain the growth trajectory recorded by his administration.
The groups affirmed that Oborevwori was able to achieve the feat, given his track record as the longest serving Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly.
A joint press conference in Asaba, the State capital to appraise Oborevwori’s one year in office, IPAC Chairman in the state, Prince Henry Eze flanked by his CUPP counterpart, Chief Efe Tobor Josiah, said they have no regrets adopting Oborevwori as their consensus candidate in the build up to the 2023 gubernatorial election.
According to Eze, “During the 2023 Governorship election, the CUPP adopted Rt Hon Oborevwori as our consensus candidate and we are here to appraise how he has fared in his first one year in office.
“We must admit that the 2023 Governorship election in which Governor Oborevwori scored 360,234 votes as against that of his main opponent who scored 240, 229 votes underscored Oborevwori’s unflinching popularity in the State and prepared him for an early good start.
“No wonder that the Governor’s one year in office has been characterized by peace as all the different ethnic nationalities in the State have for the past one year been co-existing without inter-Communal rancour.
“As the longest serving Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly in his time, he has combined strength, humble carriage as well as the capacity for harnessing amazing team spirit for successful implementation of his M.0.R.E agenda.
“In terms of infrastructural development, Governor Oborevwori has practically converted Delta State into a hug” construction site as his administration is connecting communities with roads and bridges for sustainable development.
“Perhaps most iconic of his infrastructural projects is the award of a N78billion naira contract to Julius Berger for the construction of three mega bridges , cloverleaf and road expansion works in Warri and Effurun.
“Other road networks and bridges are scattered all over the three Senatorial districts of the State
In the same vein, we hail the Oborevwori administration for attracting the establishment of three new Faculties in the University of Science and Technology Ozoro-Basic Medical Science, Pharmacy and Health Science, all approved by the National University Commission (NUC)”.
Continuing, he said: “Government has also built and commissioned an administrative block and tarred 2km of internal roads in the same University.
“We have observed and commend Governor Oborevwori for being very workers friendly. He has demonstrated this by paying the backlog of N5 billion promotion arrears of civil servants while also providing N40 billion for payment of local government pensioners.
“He has also ordered the recruitment of 2000 teaching and non- teaching staff across the 25 Local Government Areas of the State
“That apart, students of Delta State origin numbering 60,000 in Tertiary Institutions have received their 2022/2023 bursary while also approving a 25% reduction in acceptance fees in the four States owned Universities.
“The Delta State Government has provided palliative measures to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on workers, widows, vulnerable groups, the aged and vulnerable segments of the society
“The State MORE Grant Scheme has recorded tremendous results as 3000 beneficiaries in targeted trades/Artisans have been empowered.
“Also direct beneficiaries of the Delta COVID -19 Action Recovery and Economic stimulus (D-CARES) has exponentially increased from 36,353 to 110,841 within one year of the Oborevwori administration.
“All these feats were achieved without the Governor borrowing a kobo in the last one year”.
He stressed that following from the above, “we can confidently say that CUPP have been vindicated by adopting of Rt Hon Oborevwori as their consensus candidate in the 2023 Governorship elections as he has even surpassed our expectations”.
