In a significant legal development, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, are set to remain in Kuje Prison until January 7, 2026, as their bail applications await a ruling.
Justice Emeka Nwite delivered the order following arguments presented regarding the bail requests linked to a substantial N9 billion money laundering charge filed against them by the Federal Government.
Alongside Malami and his son is Hajia Bashir Asabe, an employee of Ramadiya Property Limited, who faces similar charges.
During the proceedings, Justice Nwite indicated he would not deliver a ruling until the stipulated date due to other matters on his agenda as a vacation judge.
The legal teams differed sharply, with Joseph Daudu, SAN, advocating for the defendants, while Emmanuel Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, represented the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in opposition to the bail requests.
All defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
The upcoming ruling will determine their fate as they remain in custody during this crucial period.
