A high-level Nigerian delegation, mandated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assess the security situation along the Nigeria–Cameroon border and deepen bilateral cooperation, arrived in Yaoundé on Saturday, December 5, 2025.
The delegation, led by the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, comprised Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; Senator Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi; the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena; officials of ETOS Security; a member of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Abel Dia; and representatives from the Office of the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Kefas explained that the mission was designed to gather firsthand intelligence, review existing security arrangements, and strengthen cross-border collaboration with Cameroon.
“Our visit is primarily an assessment tour aimed at obtaining accurate information from the field and reinforcing cooperation between Nigeria and Cameroon,” he said.
“This effort follows extensive intelligence work, which I have discussed with the National Security Adviser and various security agencies.
“We have consistently sought stronger collaboration with the Cameroonian Government on border security.”
The visit comes against the backdrop of heightened security concerns following the recent presidential election in Cameroon, which prompted an influx of Cameroonian nationals into Nigeria, particularly into Taraba State, thereby intensifying pressures on border communities and security agencies.
