The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, described the spate of insecurity in the Niger Delta as worrisome despite the concerted efforts by relevant authorities to mitigate it.
According to a release by the Special Assistant on Media, Elohor Agbra, the Deputy Governor stated this when he receive on courtesy call Members of the Niger Delta Dialogue led by Dr. Judith Asuni.
In his words: “The phenomenon of insecurity is one that is known all over the world, and for the peculiar Niger Delta region, it has been a very worrisome scenario.
“Worrisome against the backdrop that so much efforts seems to have been put in place to ensure that the phenomenon of insecurity is dealt with, so much efforts have been made and not so much achieved.
“The situation is like a dialogue with the deaf, where you need to do alot of demostration and gesticulation for the listener to actually hear what you are saying, but then we can’t relax on our oars, giving the fact that efforts have been made, like I have said we just have to continue to do the very best we can to have a secured Niger Delta environment.
“The Niger Delta environment is very critical to our national development, given the fact that it is the area where you have much of our economic resources which of cause is been the mainstay of our national economy”, Otuaro stated.
The Leader of the Niger Delta Dialogue, Dr.Judith Burdon Asuni who is an American by birth and a Nigerian by nationalisation, described the Deputy Governor Barrister Kingsley Otuaro as a conflict resolution manager whose wealth of experience in peace building would assist the state government.
She said said the group had six reports on insecurity in the Niger Delta after concluding its thorough research on the region.
