The political landscape of Taraba State is set for a seismic shift as Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas prepares to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside all members of the State Executive Council (SEC) on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

The announcement was made by the Taraba State Commissioner for Information and Re-Orientation, Barr. Zainab Usman Jalingo, who revealed that the decision followed the Executive Council meeting presided over by the Governor on Monday.

According to her, the move was reached after “extensive deliberations on the political and developmental direction of the State.”

She said the Council unanimously agreed that joining the APC aligns with what they believe to be the best path for the state’s future.

“Aligning with the new political direction of the Governor is aimed at advancing the overall development of Taraba State,” Barr. Usman Jalingo stated, reaffirming the readiness of the entire Council to support the Governor’s policies and programmes as the state undergoes a major political transition.

She added that the Executive Council remains focused on ensuring stability, progress, and improved governance, regardless of party platform.

The formal defection ceremony will hold at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, and is expected to draw top national APC leaders and political heavyweights who will witness the Governor’s entry into the ruling party.

This development follows another major political wave on Monday, when the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, John Kizito Bonzena, and 15 other PDP lawmakers decamped to the APC, a move widely seen as clearing the path for Governor Kefas’ grand defection.

If completed as planned, Taraba State will become an APC-controlled state for the first time since the return of democracy in 1999, marking a turning point in its political history.
