Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (UK), is dead.
The Royal Family made the announcement in a terse statement Thursday evening.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow”, it reads.
The 96-year-old head of the Commonwealth was born in Mayfair, London on April 21, 1926.
She was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York. Her father was enthroned in 1936.
Meanwhile, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history, her eldest son, Prince Charles has reportedly emerged as King of England.
DAILY POST had reported that Queen Elizabeth, an icon recognisable to billions of people around the world, died on Thursday.
According to an announcement made by Buckingham on Thursday, she died peacefully at the age of 96.
The Guardian reports that her eldest son, Charles, 73, succeeds the Queen as king with immediate effect.
