Terrorists on Friday launched a brazen attack on commuters along the Danjibga–Kuncin Kalgo road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, setting two vehicles ablaze and abducting all passengers on board.

According to reports, the attackers blocked the highway before carrying out the assault, forcing vehicles to a halt.

After seizing the occupants, the assailants reportedly burned the two vehicles, leaving the fate and whereabouts of the abducted passengers unknown as of Saturday.

The incident was confirmed by a security alert platform, Bakatsine, which noted that the attack once again underscores the persistent insecurity on major roads across Zamfara State.

The latest assault comes just days after a deadly Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion killed at least eight people along the Magami–Dansadau axis.

Following the December 27 blast, Nigerian security forces had earlier cleared the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road and declared it safe for public use.

The clearance followed an emergency joint security operation ordered after the explosion, which also destroyed property and triggered widespread panic among residents and travellers in the area.

Acting on the directive of the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were deployed to thoroughly comb the highway amid fears that additional explosives may have been planted.

The operation involved Police EOD units, Military EOD operatives, and the Joint Task Force under Operation Fansa-Yamma, with armed security personnel providing cover throughout the exercise.

Despite these efforts, Friday’s attack has renewed concerns over the safety of commuters and the continuing threat posed by armed groups on key transport routes in Zamfara State.
