The Special Adviser on Political Matters, Sunusi Kwankwaso, has resigned from his position following reports that his principal is set to defect from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sunusi made the announcement on Friday via a video message circulated on Facebook and monitored by Politics Nigeria, where he stated unequivocally that he would not be part of any political move that aligns the administration with the APC.

Declaring unwavering loyalty to the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former adviser said his decision was driven by political principle and long-standing ideological commitment.

In the recorded statement, Sunusi disclosed that he prepared and attempted to submit his resignation letter immediately after learning of Governor Abba Yusuf’s alleged plan to leave the NNPP.

However, he claimed that efforts to transmit the letter through official channels were unsuccessful.

According to him, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government declined to receive the letter, compelling him to formally notify the public of his resignation through the video message.

“After learning that the governor had left the NNPP and was expected to move to the APC, I tendered my resignation, but it was not received,” Sunusi said.

“This video is to officially notify the public that I have resigned from my role as a political adviser. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and for the work we carried out together over the last two years.”

He stressed that he could not continue to serve in an administration whose political direction no longer aligns with the Kwankwasiyya ideology.

“I will not abandon Kwankwaso or the Kwankwasiyya movement. My loyalty remains with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and I have no intention of joining the APC,” he added.

Despite his exit, Sunusi expressed appreciation to the state government for the opportunity to serve and acknowledged the political exposure and experience gained during his tenure.

He concluded by affirming that his future political engagements would remain firmly rooted in the Kwankwasiyya movement and with its supporters across Kano State.
