A two-storey building under construction collapsed on Sultan Road in Kano metropolis, leaving at least one person feared trapped beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred on Friday July 10, 2026, at about 9:00am, triggering an emergency rescue operation at the scene.
As of the time of filing this report, three victims had been pulled alive from the debris, while rescue workers continued efforts to reach a fourth person believed to remain trapped.
Eyewitnesses said construction workers noticed signs that the structure was becoming unstable while they were working on the upper floor.
The workers reportedly fled the site immediately after an engineer raised the alarm over the impending collapse.
However, four people, including a security guard and a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) rider, were caught beneath the collapsing structure.
One of the construction workers, Shu’aibu Yaro, confirmed the incident, saying the engineer’s timely warning enabled many workers to escape.
“The engineer noticed signs that the building was about to collapse, so the workers immediately ran for safety,” Yaro said.
He disclosed that three victims, including the security guard and one of his friends, were rescued with varying degrees of injuries and rushed to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital in Kano for treatment.
Rescue teams remained at the scene as efforts continued to locate and evacuate the remaining victim feared trapped beneath the collapsed building.
The cause of the collapse had not been officially established as of the time of this report, while authorities were yet to issue a formal statement on the incident.
