Kano Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, has resigned his appointment with immediate effect, citing the prevailing political turmoil in the state.

Kofarmata announced his decision in a formal resignation letter addressed to the appropriate authorities, stating that the current political climate could undermine the independence and impartiality required of his office.

According to him, the growing atmosphere of tension, coupled with expectations of loyalty and allegiance, could create either the perception or reality of compromised judgment.

“The integrity of the State Commissioner’s role rests on the ability to act without undue influence, partisan pressure, or divided allegiance,” Kofarmata said.

He warned that remaining in office under such circumstances could erode public confidence in the institution, adding that his decision to step aside was taken to safeguard the credibility of the office and uphold his commitment to ethical public service.

Kofarmata expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government for the opportunity to serve, noting that his tenure allowed him to contribute meaningfully to policy reforms and development initiatives across the state.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served in various ministries and for the trust placed in me during my tenure,” he said.

He added that he hoped his resignation would enable the ministry to function “without question or constraint,” and formally requested that his resignation be accepted as his official notice of disengagement from the Kano State Executive Council.

The resignation comes amid reports of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that has intensified political tension within the state.
