Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has removed the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office.
The development was announced on Saturday in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
The Governor directed Mbam to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.
He was also directed to hand over the affairs of the Ministry of Works to the Permanent Secretary.
No reason was stated for the latest decision.
The development marks the second time Mbam has been removed from office in 2026. He was earlier suspended on February 28 over concerns relating to the pace of work and alleged dereliction of duty in the Ministry of Works.
He was subsequently recalled on May 3 after publicly accepting responsibility for shortcomings and appealing to the Governor for another opportunity to serve.
Mbam later resumed as Works Commissioner before his latest removal.
The Ebonyi State Government has continued to place emphasis on infrastructure delivery, with the Ministry of Works responsible for the planning, execution and supervision of roads and other public infrastructure across the state.
