Fresh details emerging from the National Assembly have put to rest all speculation surrounding the status of Asaba in the proposed Anioma State.

Despite days of intense rumours on social media claiming that the capital might be relocated, the official Anioma State Creation Bill, released today, categorically affirms Asaba as the capital of the proposed state.

The clarification followed an inquiry to Senator Ned Nwoko, the lead sponsor of the bill, whose office responded by providing the complete document for public scrutiny.

According to the bill, Asaba is clearly and unambiguously designated as the capital, shutting down claims that any alternative city was being considered.

The bill also reaffirms that the proposed Anioma State will consist strictly of the nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial District, dismissing widespread misinformation about the inclusion or annexation of territories from neighbouring Anambra State.

In a significant historical note, the document recalls that the agitation for Anioma State dates back to 1954, when the region’s leaders formally approached the colonial government in London seeking a distinct homeland.

The bill further underscores Anioma’s economic viability, citing substantial oil and gas deposits that position the proposed state for sustainable development without placing undue burden on national resources.

As debates over state creation intensify nationwide, this latest confirmation is expected to refocus attention on the long-standing justification for Anioma State.

For now, one fact stands firm: Asaba remains, and will remain, the capital of the proposed Anioma State.
