BENIN CITY, Edo State – More than 100 passengers narrowly escaped injury on Thursday after an Enugu Air aircraft skidded off the runway while landing at Benin Airport in Edo State.

The airline confirmed the runway excursion in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, assuring the public that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from the aircraft.

According to the airline, no injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident.

Enugu Air said the aircraft has been secured, while the relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with established safety procedures.

The airline added that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the runway excursion.

“An assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is currently underway,” the statement said.

Enugu Air also warned that the incident could result in temporary adjustments to some flight schedules, assuring affected passengers that they would be contacted directly and provided with the necessary assistance.

The airline reaffirmed that the safety of its passengers, crew and operations remains its highest priority, promising to provide further updates through its official communication channels as investigations progress.

The cause of the incident had not been established as of the time of filing this report.
