Borno State Acting Governor Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur has officially enacted the 2026 Appropriation Bill, totaling N892.4 billion, marking a significant advancement in the state’s governance progression.
Originally presented by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on December 29, 2025, the budget underwent an upward review by the State Assembly, particularly enhancing funding for the Health and Education sectors.
Dr. Kadafur praised the Assembly for its dedication to transparency and public welfare, commending their thorough and diligent work in navigating current economic challenges and fiscal constraints.
He highlighted that this event represents the administration’s financial strategy for 2026, embodying a shared commitment to establishing a robust financial framework for governance.
The budget includes a N2.37 billion increase, with allocations of N1.774 billion designated for the Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and N400 million for the College of Nursing Sciences in Maiduguri.
Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Honourable Abdulkarim Lawan, noted that the budget review was informed by submissions from various ministries, departments, and agencies.
In conjunction with the budget approval, Dr. Kadafur also signed the Local Government Amendment Law 2000, which extends the tenure of local government chairmen and councillors from two to three years. This initiative aims to enhance grassroots governance and improve service delivery.
The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including the APC State Chairman, Head of Service, Acting Chief of Staff, Commissioners, and Special Advisers.
Dr. Kadafur reassured the Assembly and the residents of Borno State of the administration’s commitment to responsible implementation, accountability, and delivering value for money.
