Former Acting governor of Delta State, Prince Sam Obi, is dead.

The news of his death filtered into town in the early hours of Saturday 3rd April 2021.

Prince Obi became Acting governor
in 2010, after a five-man Court of Appeal Panel presided over by Justice Monica Dongban-Mensah, in Benin City, Edo State, annulled the process that brought in the then State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.

The court decision was upon the electoral petition filed by the gubernatorial candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru that there was no election in the State.

The then Speaker of the State House of Assembly (DTHA), Prince Sam Obi from Ika North East Constituency was ordered to be sworn in as Acting Governor in the interim.

Obi was elected as Speaker in July following the exit of the immediate past Speaker, Mr. Martins Okonta.

Prince Obi, popularly called Uncle Sam, was the General Overseer of God’s Oracle Ministry, along Delta Broadcast Service (DBS) Road, Asaba, the state capital.

At press time, efforts by The Story, to unearth the circumstances leading to his death, met brickwalls as it was not also clear whether he took the Covid-19 vaccine before he died.
