COVID-19: Delta SUBEB Boss Charge Headteachers, Assistants, To Observe Safety Measures As Schools Reopen

Headteachers and their assistants have been urged to adhere strictly to established Coronavirus protocols following the resumption of schools in Delta State.

The Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon.Sunny Ogwu, charged all Head Teachers and their Assistants to ensure that all COVID-19 safety Protocols are strictly observed in their schools to guarantee the health safety of both pupils and teachers in the state.

He gave the charge during the official opening ceremony of a two day training workshop for Head teachers and their Assistants at the Senior Staff hall, Asaba, with the theme: “Post Covid-19 Pandemic Safety Measures for Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers on school reopening”.

A press release by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), of  agency, Ivovi Sharon (Mrs), noted that the SUBEB boss, while emphasizing the importance of the training exercise which he said was being simultaneously held across the three senatorial districts of the State by the State Universal Basic Education Board in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers across the 25 local government areas of the state was in preparation for the reopening of schools as announced by the state government. 

He maintained that the exercise was relevant and apt for the Head teachers and their Assistants in all public primary schools in the State, adding that the training was not only to equip participants with the relevant safety protocols but also to ensure strict compliance to all COVID-19 safety Protocols as stipulated by the Delta State Government and the National Centre for Disease Control ( NCDC) on post COVID-19 Pandemic Safety measures.

While urging participants to take seriously the training as it bothers on the safety of both pupils, teachers and non teaching staff, the SUBEB boss charged them to replicate the lessons learnt at the two-day training exercise by in turn train all staff in their schools on the COVID 19 safety protocols, adding that the health safety of our children was paramount.

Earlier, the Director of Teachers Development, Mrs. Eru Ezefili in her welcome remarks while stressing the aim and significance of the training, stated that resource persons were drawn from both the Ministry of Health and Health Care Development Agency to train participants on the COVID-19 pandemic safety protocols, adding that certificate of attendance would be issued to all participants. 

The event was attended by the Secretary to the Board, Sir Byron Unini, Local Education Authority Secretaries from Aniocha North, Aniocha South and Oshimili South, Oshimili North amongst others.
