Benue NUJ Loses Chairman, As Delta Council Console Colleagues

The Benue State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has lost their chairman, Comrade Victoria Asher, to the cold hands of death.

A statement on Saturday 30th January 2021, by the Secretary of NUJ Benue Council, Mr. Moses Akaahan, stated that Asher died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi, the State capital after a caesarian session (surgery) in the early hours.

Asher is the second Benue NUJ chairman to die in office.

Her predecessor, David Ukuma, was in office for less than six months before he died.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Council of the Union, has condoled the their Benue counterparts over the demise of their Chairman.

In a condolence message by the Secretary of of the Delta State Council, Comrade Patrick Nweike Ochei, regretted the sudden death.

“We regret to announce the untimely death of our colleague and State Chairman, NUJ Benue State Council, Comrade Victoria Asher.

“She died after an unsuccessful C/S surgery at FMC Benue State.

He called on colleagues, to pray for the repose of her soul, “Let’s also pray to God to grant the family the consolation they need at this moment of bereavement”, he added.
