Kano Governor Appoints Prof. Bayero As VC Of Northwest University

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of Professor Amina Salihi Bayero as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Northwest University.

The five-year tenure takes effect from Monday, December 1, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Director-General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the approval follows the recommendation of the University Council after a rigorous selection process.

Governor Yusuf, who serves as Visitor to the University, commended the Chairman and members of the Council for upholding merit and integrity throughout the exercise.

He called for prayers from the public for divine guidance as the new Vice Chancellor assumes office.

According to the statement, Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero is a distinguished scholar of Analytical Chemistry and the first female to earn a PhD in Chemistry from Bayero University, Kano.

Her academic and administrative career includes serving as Head of Department, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Yusuf Maitama Sule University.

Renowned for her research achievements, leadership, and dedication to mentoring young scientists, her appointment is expected to bolster academic excellence and advance gender inclusion in Kano’s higher education sector.
