As the festive season for Christians draws nearer, officers of the Delta state Police Command, have been charged to boost their morals and uphold the nation’s Country Constitution by providing security to Nigerians.

The State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, equally commended them in their efforts to tackle crime and criminality across the state.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro,  during the visit of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, Mr. Shola David in Asaba.

He applauded the doggedness of the police in the state for protecting lives and property, especially during the Covid-19 and the#ENDSARS periods.

He said the police had effectively discharged its constitutional duties by ensuring that Delta state is a safe destination for business as they have nipped criminal activities in the bud.

Otuaro noted that the Okowa-led administration had constituted several peace and conflict resolution and security bodies such as the Delta State Water Ways Security, Delta State Elders  Advisory Council and the Delta State Advocacy Against Oil Installations Vandalism and Theft among others to support the police and other sister security agencies to ensure that peace reigned supreme in the state.

The Deputy Governor opined that the policies and programmes of the government is hinged on peace and security which has assisted the police to play a pivotal role.

He commended the Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwa Mohammed and his officers and men for their efforts in ensuring a secured state as he noted that the high level of recovery of arms and ammunitions from criminals had further made the state safer.

Otuaro also commended the Police for its proactive steps to instill ethnic harmony by stepping up security in the event of any inter ethnic clash stressing that the role the police played also helped in deescalating the Aladja and Ogbe Ijoh crisis.

On the #ENDSARS protest, he noted that the state recorded minimal killings and destruction of property due to the efforts the police and other security agencies asserted.

He urged the police to step up its tempo as criminal activities seem to be on the increase during festive seasons.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5,  Shola David said his visit was to interact with officers and men of the Delta State Police Command for the professional roles they played during the #ENDSARS protest and also to boost their morale as well as review strategies for better results.

He stressed the need for better community police relations, observing that the issues that led to the #ENDSARS protest were being addressed by the government.

He emphasised that the police would not tolerate such protests anymore.

The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Hafiz Inuwa, said the police would not fail in performing its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, assuring that security would be  strengthened to enhance a crime free state.

He reeled out the achievements of the Command under his watch which include the recovery of several arms and ammunitions as well as banned drugs worth millions of naira.

He commended the state government for its support to the police command.

The event climaxed with the presentation of the Inspector General of Police certificate of commendation to twelve officers and men of the Command by the Deputy Governor.

Speaking in an interview, the Commissioner also disclosed that the Commissioner’s certificate of commendation would be also presented to some dedicated and Committed officers.

One of the IG’s certificate of commendation beneficiaries, John Anikan, expressed gratitude to the IGP for finding him worthy and appreciated the command especially the commissioner of police for the commendation.
