Two months after the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) primaries,
former governor of Delta state, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has sent warm message to his daughter Orode, on her birthday, who lost the election to Fred Martins, to represent Warri north State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), come 2023.
Using literary expression to drive home his point, the former governor who equally withdrew from the race to represent Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly (NASS) over voters apathy, told the daughter “God has protected you from the “Okonkwo/Ikemefuna” treatment that was meant to break you”.
In the novel titled “Things Fall Apart” written by Chinua Achebe, where Uduaghan, used Personification, a literary device with a literary element to convey his birthday message to his daughter, Ikemefuna calls Okonkwo father.
But when it was time for Ikemefuna to die and Okonkwo was meant to kill him, he was advised against it by his kinsman who told him “Don’t do it. The boy calls you father”.
Despite the plea, also from Ikemefuna, Okonkwo still went ahead and killed Ikemefuna.
But Uduaghan in his birthday message to his daughter, wrote: “Happy birthday my darling Princess and the mother of my grandchildren.
“God has protected you from the “Okonkwo/Ikemefuna” treatment that was meant to break you.
“Our heavenly father will continue to be your shield. Enjoy your day my dear daughter”, he said.
But in a swift reaction, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, while fielding questions from journalists on the issue said Okowa sees Orode as a daughter just as Orode sees Okowa as a father hence she was appointed into the administration.
Hear him: “Governor Okowa did not work against Uduaghan’s daughter. The former governor’s daughter is a staff of this administration and she is doing well in the job committed to her.
“For instance, if governor Okowa has something against her, he wouldn’t have given her political appointment.
“We encourage her to try her luck next time, you are aware that the Governor is not from her constituency for him to determine her victory”
