THE STORY EXCLUSIVE: Female Cobbler Seeks Government, NGOs Assistance To Acquire Tools

The Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration in Delta State, well-meaning Nigerians and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), have been called upon to lend hands of assistance to Miss Sunday Nkechi Eguatun, a female cobbler from Ute-Okpu Community, Ika north east local government area of the state to enable her actualize her dreams.

Miss Eguatun, on Wednesday February 10th 2021, made the appeal in an exclusive interview with The Story, in a telephone conversation, disclosing that she holds Ordinary National Diploma (OND), in Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), from Ozoro Polytechnic, Isoko north local government area of the state.

She revealed that after she left Marymount College, Boji-Boji, Owa, she proceeded to acquire her National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology, pointing out that despite having an excellent certificate, she ventured into shoe making business.

She stated that her initial plans was to learn cosmetology but later left when she discovered that her focus area in life was rather in leathering business which later took her from her hometown, Agbor, to pursue.

She said her desire in the leather business made her to join one Mr. Ignatius, a native of Owa-Ofie Community to learn how to make shoes when she returned to Agbor five years after.

Not satisfied with her trainer who she said only amended old shoes rather than produce new ones which is her interest, she stopped and travelled to Lagos State where she had the opportunity to learn how to produce all kinds of shoes such as male and female shoes, slippers and sandals.

According to her, some of her friends have discouraged her from continuing in her shoe making business, maintaining that she was resolute in staying put in the craft of making shoes.

Eguatun, appealed to the state government and well-meaning Nigerians for assistance to help provide her with a filing and sewing machines, generating set and other equipment to enable her sit properly to pursue her dreams.

She advised youths particularly graduates to learn a trade or venture into business rather than wait for white collar jobs that may not be available.

She disclosed that her shop is located at First Powerline, Owa-Ekei/Owa-Alero Road in Boji-Boji Owa, with First Bank Account number 3095370100, while her personal phone number is 08037207497.
