As the 8th Delta State House of Assembly officially began its Third Legislative Session, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has charged members to recommit themselves to the constitutional duties of lawmaking, representation, and oversight.
Delivering his welcome address at the first plenary sitting of the new session, Speaker Guwor emphasized the need for legislators to prioritize the interests of their constituents above all personal or political prejudices, stressing that expectations remain high across the state.
“We must stay united, focused, and deliberate in our actions as we work in partnership with the Executive and other stakeholders to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people,” the Speaker stated.
He commended his colleagues for their “uncommon team spirit” and unwavering support for the leadership of the House, which he described as immeasurable and critical to the progress recorded thus far.
“Distinguished colleagues, I warmly welcome you all to the Third Session of the 8th Assembly. Let me begin by expressing my profound gratitude to Almighty God for the successful completion of the Second Session,” he said.
The Speaker also extended appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, and his wife, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, for their presence at the Thanksgiving Service and reception marking the end of the Second Session, describing their attendance as “refreshing and colourful.”
Guwor further acknowledged the presence and support of:
The immediate past Deputy Governor, His Excellency Deacon (Barr.) Burutu Otuaro,
Members of the National Assembly, and
Other dignitaries who joined in the Thanksgiving celebration.
Concluding his remarks, the Speaker offered prayers for wisdom and unity in the House’s deliberations and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to the growth and development of Delta State.
“May God continue to guide our deliberations and bless the Delta State House of Assembly,” he said
