Chief Emma Ejiofor, a prominent political strategist and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, has declared the creation of Anioma State a “done deal,” throwing his full weight behind Senator Ned Nwoko’s legislative initiative to actualize the long-anticipated state.
In an exclusive interview, Chief Ejiofor praised Senator Nwoko as “a shining star in the National Assembly,” lauding his visionary and determined leadership in championing the Anioma cause.
He described the senator’s efforts as both strategic and historic, calling it the most significant advancement in the decades-long demand for the recognition of Anioma as a distinct state in Nigeria.
“Senator Ned Nwoko’s move is bold, commendable, and long overdue,” Ejiofor stated. “The creation of Anioma State is no longer a dream, it is a reality in motion. What we’re witnessing now is the culmination of years of advocacy, and the time for action is finally here.”
Chief Ejiofor emphasized that Nwoko commands both the respect of his colleagues in the National Assembly and the admiration of his constituents, noting his increasing influence at the federal level.
“Ned Nwoko is an asset to Anioma and indeed the entire nation. Every time he rises in that chamber, Anioma people stand taller. He embodies the courage, intellect, and vision needed to move this project forward.”
The call for the creation of Anioma State, largely composed of the Igbo-speaking communities in Delta North, dates back to the 1950s, when political leaders from Aboh and Asaba divisions first raised the demand at the Western Regional House of Assembly.
Ejiofor hailed Nwoko’s efforts as the strongest legislative advancement on the matter in Nigeria’s recent democratic history.
He acknowledged that previous attempts at state creation were often undermined by internal divisions and fragmented leadership, but said Nwoko’s initiative has brought renewed unity and focus to the cause.
“What we lacked in the past was political will and cohesion. Today, with Senator Nwoko’s leadership, we have both. The current environment is more favorable than ever.”
Ejiofor also pointed to growing national support for Anioma State, citing endorsements from traditional leaders, women’s groups, youth movements, and other key stakeholders across party and ethnic lines.
He underscored the economic viability of the proposed state, highlighting Anioma’s rich agricultural potential, its strategic location at the gateway between the South-East and South-South, and its industrious population.
“Anioma is not just ready—it is overdue. We have the resources, the people, and now, the leadership. With Senator Nwoko leading this charge with integrity and courage, the creation of Anioma State is not only possible but imminent.”
With Ejiofor’s influential endorsement and Senator Nwoko’s growing momentum in the National Assembly, the movement for Anioma State has entered a decisive phase, one that many believe could finally deliver the long-awaited statehood to the people of Delta North.
