Police Score Court Victory in Crackdown On Vandalism, Drug Offences

The Delta State Police Command has secured the conviction of 16 persons over offences involving vandalism of government property, theft and unlawful possession of prohibited substances, reinforcing its ongoing campaign against crimes targeting public infrastructure.

The convictions were handed down by Magistrate Court 3 in Asaba on July 15, 2026, following the successful prosecution of the defendants on charges of criminal conspiracy, theft of iron rods belonging to the Delta State Government, and wilful destruction of government property, contrary to the Criminal Code Law of Delta State. The court also found them guilty of unlawfully possessing 20 cups of Colorado (Kolos), an offence under the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act.

Each of the 16 convicts was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre.

Those convicted are Yaro Abdul (25), Mohammed Isah (31), Hassan Jato (23), Azeez Bello (18), Duru Lawrence (27), Tijani Hassan (23), Muasu Alabo (27), Lawal Zardi (18), Gambo Abdul (18), Ali Musa (21), Musa Abdul (18), Umuru Kasa (19), Gaga Amos (25), Sani Garuba (18), Hanza Garuba (24) and Abdul Ahi Jubrin (18).

Reacting to the judgment, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the investigative and prosecutorial teams for securing the convictions.

He described the outcome as a strong warning to individuals involved in vandalism, theft of public assets and drug-related crimes.

He stressed that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-driven policing strategies to protect critical government infrastructure, combat criminal activities and ensure the safety and security of residents across Delta State.
