Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State have reaffirmed the party’s strength, unity and dominance in the state, declaring that the party remains firmly rooted despite recent political developments.

The assurance was given on Friday 6, 2026, during a stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the party’s Local Government Congresses, where party leaders and members gathered to strategize and mobilize support for the exercise that will produce party structures across the state.

Chairman of the PDP Ward and Local Government Congresses Panel for Delta State, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, who led the National Working Committee’s delegation from Abuja, said the panel was fully prepared to conduct a credible and transparent congress in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Addressing party stakeholders, Nwachukwu emphasized that the PDP remains a strong and formidable political force in Delta State.

He said the presence of party leaders, elders and members at the meeting was a clear indication that the party remained vibrant and united.

“We want to inform the people of Delta State that the PDP is strong, firm, reliable and very, very formidable,” he said.

Nwachukwu also dismissed claims that the PDP had weakened in the state due to defections to other parties.

“I want to use this opportunity to disabuse the minds of those who said that everybody in Delta State had moved to the APC. That is not correct,” he stated.

“By the array of people here present, would anyone say that everybody in Delta State PDP has moved to APC? The answer is no.”

He explained that the congress exercise would produce party structures from the ward to the local government level and eventually the state structure.

“We are here to conduct the congresses that will produce party structures from the ward to the local government and, by extension, that of the state,” he said.

According to him, the exercise would largely be conducted through consensus in accordance with the directive of the party’s National Working Committee.

“By the authority given to us by the National Working Committee, we are to conduct these congresses by way of consensus.

“Party members and aspirants have already been briefed on the modalities and the ways and means of carrying out these exercises,” he added.

He disclosed that a Local Organising Committee had been constituted to oversee the exercise across the local government areas.

“We have formed what we call the Local Organising Committee, which will be sent to the various local government areas to ensure a hitch-free conduct of this exercise,” he said.

“From our own part as the panel from Abuja, we will also visit as many local government areas as possible to ensure that the exercise is conducted according to the party guidelines and constitution.”

Nwachukwu maintained that Delta State remained the political stronghold of the PDP, expressing confidence that those who left the party would eventually return.

“Delta State is the home of the PDP. Even those who were said to have left the party, where did they come from? They came from PDP,” he said.

“In Igbo they say ‘Agadacha must come back.’ When they go out there and see that the place is very hot, they will return to PDP, and we will be ready to receive them.”

He also informed party members of what he described as positive developments from the judiciary concerning internal party disputes.

“Let me also give you very cheering news. The Court of Appeal in Ibadan has ruled on the matter before it and has affirmed the position of the party,” he said.

“Do not be deceived by anyone. Know that where you are standing is on the right path.”

Also speaking, former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, commended party stakeholders for their dedication and commitment to rebuilding and strengthening the PDP in the state.

Otuaro noted that the stakeholders’ meeting marked a transition from the ward congresses to the local government congresses scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday February 7, 2026.

“This stakeholders’ meeting is ushering us into the local government congresses holding tomorrow, and thereafter we will move to the state congresses,” he said.

He praised members for the successful conduct of the ward congresses and urged them to remain steadfast in defending the party’s interests.

“I want to thank you for the very successful ward congresses we have had,” he said.

“I want to ask that you keep faith with our party, the PDP. Stand firm and do all within your power to protect the interests of our party.”

Otuaro also addressed concerns among members regarding internal disputes and court cases, assuring them that the rule of law remained the guiding principle of the party’s actions.

“We have always told you that the law is the law and that the law will always stand against impunity,” he said.

“We are on the path of law, on the path of our rules and regulations guiding our party, and we are standing firmly on them.”

He urged party leaders across the state to strictly follow the guidelines during the congress exercise.

“As you leave for your respective local government councils, I ask you to strictly follow the guidelines laid down by the party leadership,” he said.

“We will ensure that everything is done in accordance with the regulations, guidelines and the rules of our party.”

He expressed optimism that the congresses would further strengthen the PDP’s political structure across the state.

“Delta State is a PDP state. Despite everything that has happened, we are here to reinstate the strength, dominance and leadership of the PDP,” Otuaro said.

Chairman of the Delta State PDP Caretaker Committee, Barr. Peter Mrakpor, SAN, also reaffirmed that the party remained strong and united.

“This party, the PDP, is not dead, and it will never die,” he said.

Mrakpor said many members remained committed to the party because of their belief in its ideals and principles.

“Some of us decided to stay because we have faith that this is the proper thing to do,” he said.

“It is our belief that this is our party and we have a duty and responsibility to grow it.”

He stressed that the PDP would continue to operate within the framework of the rule of law.

“The law is on our side. From the national level down to the state, everything we are doing is based on the law, the law, the law, the law,” he said.

“Any party without the rule of law will collapse. Even in families there is decorum, respect and procedures.”

Mrakpor reiterated that the party would not resort to violence in the pursuit of its political goals.

“We are not violent people. We are not fighting anybody,” he said.

“It is simply our persuasion and belief that the PDP is the right party.”

He urged party members to remain steadfast and optimistic about the future of the party.

“Know where you are standing and remain firm. This party will continue to move forward, and together we will build it stronger”, he said.
