The Chief Press Secretary (CPS), to the Delta State Governor, Mr. Olise Ifeajika, has charged journalists in the State to guide against fake news.
Ifeajika gave the charge on Monday May 22nd 2023, when the new leadership of Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC), led by Comrade Kenneth Orusi, paid him a familiarization visit at his office at Government House, Asaba.
He noted that proper and adequate checks must be observed before stories are written and transmitted for public consumption.
The Delta State governor mouthpiece alsk enjoined journalists to take time to build long-term relationships in the line of duty rather than hang around for peanuts.
Speaking further, he charged journalists to deploy the use of the developmental journalism to point out to government at various levels areas they had not touched rather than attack government as no administration can do it all.
He warned newsmen to desist from propagating falsehood and poorly verified facts clinging on the catch phrase, “leave out if you are not sure”.
He called on members of the fourth estate of the realms to at all times do their jobs diligently and go about their duties peacefully and maintain good and cordial relationship with their audience and clients, putting into cognizance their dress code.
Earlier, the Chairman of ICC, Comrade Orusi assured that his administration as chairman of the body would promote unity among members and as well as help government achieve its developmental agenda through appropriate reportage .
He stressed that as chairman of ICC, he has his booths on ground to ensure a smooth transition into the new government and also ready to work with the incoming administration to foster more development through proper reportage of government policies and programme as well as set agenda for the government where necessary.
Comrade Orusi commended the CPS for the good work he has been doing as the mouthpiece of the governor and for always identifying with journalists.
