Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has mourned the death of former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing him as a detribalised leader whose contributions to the development of the state would remain indelible.

Uduaghan, aged 71, reportedly died on Monday, October 19, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family.

In a condolence message conveyed through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Oborevwori expressed sympathy with the deceased’s wife, Roli, his children, the Uduaghan family, the Itsekiri nation and the people of Delta State.

The governor acknowledged Uduaghan’s contributions to the state during his years in public office, particularly in infrastructure development, noting that his leadership was marked by a commitment to the collective progress of Delta.

Oborevwori described the former governor as a leader who rose above ethnic considerations and worked towards the development of the state, irrespective of differences among its constituent groups.

Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government between 2003 and 2007.

He was elected governor in May 2007 and served two terms, leaving office in 2015.

Oborevwori said the death of the former governor was a significant loss to Delta State and Nigeria, noting that his years of service had left lasting imprints on the state’s development.

The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of Uduaghan’s soul and asked God to grant his wife, children, family members, the Itsekiri nation and all those mourning his passing the strength and comfort to bear the loss.
