There are indications that the governorship candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Sheriff Oborevwori and that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ovie Augustine Omo-Agege are afraid to face their counterpart in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, hence they withdrew before the scheduled time for the Arise News Governorship Debate.
It has been observed that the PDP candidate, Oborevwori, prefers to appear on BBC Pigin English where he can speak the broken English than on National television stations where he would find it difficult to express himself in simple English.
Oborevwori, instead of addressing Deltans offhand,, is seen reading from prepared speeches thereby vindicating those who says he is “unintelligent”.
At the time of filing this analysis, there was no official statement from the media team of Oborevwori, stating reasons for his withdrawal from the debate.
Also, the gubernatorial candidate of APC and Deputy Senate President cum Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly (NASS), has equally announced his withdrawal from the debate slated for today, Wednesday 15th 2023.
Omo-Agege on the other hand, has not proven to Deltans that he is intellectually fit to govern the oil-rich Delta State with bookworms.
He has not been able to reel out his programmes for Deltans without reading from a prepared speech or referring to a written note where he jotted down his points.
The Deputy Senate President, in public fora, has not equally expressed himself without a backup like a newscaster.
Instead of surrendering, Omo-Agege hiding behind Oborevwori’s withdrawal in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sunny Areh, said he withdrew because of his PDP counterpart, who pulled out of the debate is willing to attend any debate.
However, the governorship candidate of SDP, Olorogun Gbagi, OON, has proven himself beyond doubt that he is intellectually sound and capable of handling all sectors of the State as governor as he has expressed readiness to appear before Deltans.
His oratory prowess has distinguished him from the other candidates vying for the number seat, as he has the gift of addressing any crowd of people either the working class, professionals, artisans, high class or the lower class across the State.
He knows how to blend into any group of people to sell himself, his plans and programmes whenever the opportunity calls.
From Delta Central, to North and South Senatorial Districts, Gbagi, FNIM, has won the hearts of Deltans following his ability to express himself without a prepared speech.
Overwhelming feeling will express itself in speech; originally with rhe Biblical allusion to Matthew 12:34, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh”.
From the Church to market places, motor parks, political gathering, social events, name it, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, has shown capacity and competence.
Therefore, one would conclude without being seen to be biased that the duo of the PDP and APC are scared of facing Gbagi, a First Class graduate, a Criminologist, lawyer, business tycoon and a political juggernaut in the debate hence they opted out.
Emmanuel Efeni, DMD, Arise TV News had invited all the candidates for the debate to tell Deltans what they would do if elected governor.
It is now clear to all Deltans that the only man equipped for the job, is the former minister of state for education, former Chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, former Chairman, Delta Development Property Authority (DDP), His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi.
