The Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema led Delta State Waste Management Board has officially commenced maintenance and environmental sanitation efforts at the Government Dumpsite in Abraka, marking a renewed push toward improved waste management and public health safety in the area.

The exercise, which began on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, is being carried out under the supervision of Hon. Felix Erhimedafe, member representing Delta Central at the Delta State Waste Management Board.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts to enhance environmental cleanliness and ensure the dumpsite operates in line with approved waste management standards.

Heavy-duty equipment was deployed to the site to facilitate the clearing, leveling, and proper compaction of waste materials.

The intervention is expected to significantly reduce environmental hazards, control indiscriminate dumping, and improve overall sanitary conditions within the host community.

Field operations are being coordinated by Abraka field office supervisors, Oguori- Okodaso Ejiroghene and Ogbemudia Irikefe, who are overseeing on-ground implementation to ensure compliance with operational guidelines.

Speaking on the development, officials emphasized that the maintenance work reflects the state government’s sustained commitment to environmental sustainability, public health protection, and efficient waste disposal systems across Delta Central and beyond.

Residents of Abraka have been encouraged to support the initiative by adhering to proper waste disposal practices and cooperating with sanitation authorities as the maintenance exercise progresses.

The cleanup and restructuring of the dumpsite are expected to continue in phases until the facility meets optimal operational standards.
