The Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended Nigerian women for their resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to promoting peace and development as the world marks International Women’s Day 2026.
Guwor gave the commendation in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, in which he congratulated women across the country for their remarkable contributions to nation-building and global peace.
The Conference Chairman, who also serves as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, noted that Nigerian women have consistently demonstrated dedication and leadership in advancing peace, stability, and sustainable development within their communities and beyond.
He observed that many women have continued to play pivotal roles in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and community development, helping to shape the narrative of progress and prosperity in Nigeria.
According to him, “Today, we celebrate the outstanding contributions of women to our families, communities, and society at large. Their tireless efforts in shaping a better future for our nation and the world remain invaluable.”
Felicitating with women, especially mothers, on the occasion, Guwor urged them to remain steadfast as agents of positive change by promoting unity, tolerance, and mutual understanding within their communities.
He emphasized that the role of women in shaping the nation’s future cannot be overstated and assured them that legislative institutions across the country remain committed to supporting initiatives that advance their welfare and development.
Guwor also reaffirmed the commitment of the Conference of Speakers to promoting policies and programmes that strengthen gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusive development.
He described the theme for this year’s celebration, “Rights, Justice, Action, For All Women and Girls,” alongside the campaign slogan “Give to Gain,” as timely and relevant, noting that it highlights the need for structural accountability, closing justice gaps, defending women’s rights, and advancing gender equality.
“As we celebrate the achievements of women today, we must also acknowledge the challenges that remain and renew our collective commitment to building a more just and equitable society,” he said.
“We must continue to work together to address issues such as gender-based violence, inequality, and discrimination, while ensuring that women have equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“I encourage women to keep breaking barriers, pushing boundaries, and striving for excellence, because their role in shaping the future of our nation is indispensable,” Guwor added.
