Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged the newly inaugurated members of the Governing Council of Delta State University (DELSU) in Abraka to fulfill their duties with integrity, diligence, and a strong commitment to the institution.
During the inauguration of Rt. Hon. Festus Agas, Rt. Hon. Frank Enekorogha, and Mr. Charles Ajuyah, SAN, the Governor emphasized that effective governance is essential for enhancing DELSU’s reputation as a leading center of academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
Governor Oborevwori highlighted the importance of the Governing Council during the ceremony, stating that it plays a crucial role in university governance through policy direction and oversight.
He acknowledged the timely appointment of the new members as DELSU continues to solidify its status as a premier institution of higher learning.
“The Governing Council is central to the effective governance of any university, providing policy guidance and ensuring that institutional goals are met,” the Governor remarked.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to appointing individuals of proven integrity, experience, and distinction to the governing councils of the state’s tertiary institutions.
He expressed confidence that the newly appointed members, who have demonstrated excellence in public service and leadership, are well-suited for their roles.
“As members of the Governing Council, you represent the aspirations of thousands of students, staff, alumni, and the people of Delta State,” he stated.
“Your decisions will shape policies, influence academic direction, and define the university’s future for generations.”
The Governor urged the council members to serve with transparency and dedication, emphasizing that their choices will have a lasting impact on the lives of students and the future of DELSU.
Governor Oborevwori expressed optimism that the appointees’ wealth of experience would contribute to producing graduates who are academically proficient, morally grounded, and socially responsible.
In response, Rt. Hon. Festus Agas, speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated members, expressed gratitude to God and the Delta State Government for the opportunity to serve. He described the appointment as both a significant honor and a call to service.
Agas assured the Governor that the council members would collaborate closely with the Vice-Chancellor and university management to enhance the administration of DELSU and advance its mission.
He commended Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, highlighting the collaborative relationship among the state’s government branches, which has led to notable achievements over the past two and a half years.
He acknowledged the administration’s progress in areas such as peace and security, infrastructure development, human capital development, and healthcare initiatives, citing improvements in major road projects, youth empowerment programs, and the enhancement of the contributory health insurance scheme.
“We thank the Governor for the confidence he has placed in us. We will serve with dedication, loyalty, and integrity,” Agas affirmed, while also praying for continued wisdom and strength for the Governor to elevate Delta State to greater heights.
