Senator Ned Munir Nwoko and his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, have launched a full-scale legal offensive against one Timothy Gabriel, popularly known as “Tuma,” accusing him of spearheading a relentless campaign of defamation, blackmail, and dangerous incitement.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday by the senator’s media directorate, the couple declared that both civil and criminal actions have commenced against Gabriel, whose smear tactics, they say, have crossed every legal and moral boundary.
The statement described Gabriel’s allegations as “vile, reckless, and malicious, with no basis in fact or decency,” pointing out that he has hidden behind the cloak of activism to spread toxic falsehoods, particularly targeting Regina Daniels with crude insinuations about morality and paternity.
“There is no democracy anywhere in the world where freedom of speech includes the freedom to defame, incite hatred, or destroy reputations under the guise of online advocacy,” the statement read. “The internet is not a lawless jungle.”
The couple’s legal action was reportedly triggered after Gabriel brazenly dared them to take him to court—a challenge they have now accepted with full force.
According to the statement, their legal team is pursuing both civil redress and criminal prosecution, given the “criminally actionable nature” of Gabriel’s utterances and their potential to incite social unrest.
Rejecting any attempt to drag the matter into the court of public opinion, the media directorate was clear:
“This will not be litigated on social media. We are taking this to the courts where overwhelming evidence will be presented.”
In a direct warning to Gabriel’s sympathizers masquerading as human rights defenders, the statement emphasized:
“Freedom of speech is not a license to lie. Defamation is not activism, and the line will be drawn, with precision and finality—in the courtroom.”
This development signals a no-holds-barred legal battle against what the couple considers an unprovoked and criminal attack on their integrity, reputation, and family.
