In a renewed drive to promote environmental sanitation and a cleaner urban landscape, men of the Delta State Waste Management Board (DSWMB), Agbor, on Monday embarked on a special clean-up exercise across strategic locations in the city.
The exercise commenced along the UNiDEL Road axis near the Uromi Junction, a busy corridor that had experienced waste accumulation due to high human and vehicular activity.
The operation was carried out in strict compliance with safety standards, with cautionary signage mounted to alert motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow during the clean-up.
The intervention was undertaken on the directive of the Executive Chairman of DSWMB, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, as part of the Board’s broader mandate to enhance environmental health, prevent indiscriminate dumping, and restore the aesthetic appeal of urban spaces across Delta State.
Supervising the exercise was the Honourable Member representing Delta North, Hon. Cosmas Igbenije, who commended the dedication of the sanitation workers and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.
Speaking during the operation, officials of the Board emphasized that the clean-up was not only about waste evacuation but also about sending a strong message on environmental responsibility.
Residents and road users were urged to cooperate with sanitation authorities by properly disposing of refuse and avoiding practices that degrade public spaces.
The special clean-up exercise involved the evacuation of large heaps of mixed waste, deployment of waste trucks, and manual clearing of refuse from road shoulders and adjoining areas, significantly improving the outlook of the corridor.
The Delta State Waste Management Board reiterated its resolve to sustain regular sanitation exercises across Agbor and other parts of the state, while calling on communities, traders, and commuters to partner with government efforts by maintaining a culture of cleanliness.
This initiative underscores the proactive leadership of DSWMB and the collaborative oversight of Delta North’s representation in ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more livable environment for the people of Delta State.
