In its commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring enrollee satisfaction, the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has commenced an intensive training programme for its senior management staff.
The initiative is part of the Commission’s broader transition into a more efficient, performance-driven institution.
Declaring the three-day capacity-building session open, DSCHC Consultant, Dr. S. O. Nwachukwu, explained that many senior staff members were initially deployed from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) during the Commission’s formative years.
He noted that the traditional civil service environment differs from the more corporate-oriented operational structure of the Commission, hence the need for reorientation and capacity enhancement.
Dr. Nwachukwu highlighted that the Commission has already developed a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual and is now focused on equipping senior personnel with the skills and knowledge required to effectively implement these guidelines.
He added that the training also prepares staff for eventual permanent employment within the Commission.
Speaking further, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Comrade Bolum Martins Nwachukwu, stated that the Commission has reached a level of maturity that requires standardized systems and well-documented processes capable of ensuring operational consistency.
He commended the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, for his transformative leadership, noting that his initiatives have positioned Delta State as a leader in health insurance service delivery.
He encouraged the DG to sustain the Commission’s impressive momentum.
Participants were trained on key aspects of transition management, including corporate culture and professionalism, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), job descriptions, and the practical application of SOP-guided job processes.
The session also featured an interactive question-and-answer segment to address concerns and clarify grey areas.
The training continues throughout the week as DSCHC intensifies efforts to build a more efficient, corporate-oriented workforce dedicated to delivering quality healthcare services to Deltans.
