…commission participates in summit exhibition
The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the financial strain associated with unexpected health challenges.
This assurance was highlighted at the maiden MSME Summit organized by the Delta State Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development Agency (DESMEDA).
Representing the Director-General of the Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, Dr. Okeoghene Owigho congratulated DESMEDA for hosting the summit themed “Advancing Delta MSMEs: From Vision to MORE Value.”
He noted that the theme aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which prioritizes technological innovation, infrastructure, and enhanced value creation for MSMEs.
Dr. Akpoveta underscored that human capital remains the most critical asset for any business, driving productivity, growth, and long-term success.
He cautioned that a single medical emergency could wipe out years of progress for an enterprise.
To address this, the Commission has expanded access to quality healthcare across Delta State, currently enrolling over 2.75 million residents, approximately half of the population.
The Commission’s Informal Sector Plan provides affordable health insurance at an annual premium of ₦7,000, tailored specifically for MSMEs, artisans, traders, and low-income earners.
This plan is designed to protect businesses and individuals from catastrophic health expenditures that could threaten their stability.
Dr. Akpoveta also encouraged philanthropy and corporate support for the Indigent Enrollee Program, which enables individuals and organizations to sponsor healthcare premiums for vulnerable Deltans.
He emphasized that “a single sponsorship can secure healthcare, protect a livelihood, keep a business afloat, and sustain a family’s hope.”
Dr. Akpoveta reiterated the Commission’s readiness to collaborate with DESMEDA and other stakeholders to strengthen the health and resilience of business owners, adding, “When we keep our MSMEs healthy, we keep Delta State prosperous.”
The Commission commended the organizers and participants of the inaugural summit for their dedication to advancing the MSME ecosystem and wished all attendees fruitful and impactful deliberations.
