Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has extended heartfelt felicitations to the Board, Management, and Staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
Speaking during the opening of the resumed plenary session at the Hallowed Chambers on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the Speaker lauded the interventionist agency for its enduring contributions to the socio-economic and infrastructural development of the Niger Delta region over the past two and a half decades.
Rt. Hon. Guwor, who also serves as the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, acknowledged the NDDC’s positive impact on the lives of the people and the transformation of physical infrastructure in the region.
He commended the Commission for its dedication to its mandate and urged it to remain a vanguard for human capital development, environmental sustainability, and regional progress.
In a related remark, the Speaker, on behalf of the entire House, congratulated the Delta State students who represented Nigeria at the World School Debate Championship held in Doha, Qatar, for their exceptional performance and medal-winning feat.
He praised the students as “worthy ambassadors of Delta State”, emphasizing that their global achievement was a testament to the State Government’s investment and commitment to excellence in education.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering support for youth empowerment and educational advancement in the state.
Further during plenary, Rt. Hon. Guwor also extended warm birthday wishes to the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, on his 66th birthday, commending his legacy of service and outstanding achievements during his tenure.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Joint Committees on Special Bills and Peace and Security, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, submitted the committee’s report on the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency Bill.
Hon. Nwaobi explained that after consultations with key stakeholders, the committee recommended a complete repeal of the existing law and the enactment of a new legal framework to strengthen the Agency’s operations, enhance its effectiveness, and promote accountability in community policing across the state.
In a related legislative development, the Member representing Ughelli North II Constituency, Hon. Spencer Ohwofa, was granted leave to introduce a Bill seeking to repeal obsolete gaming-related laws in Delta State.
The proposed bill aims to consolidate and modernize gaming regulations by establishing the Delta Gaming Board, which will serve as the central body for the regulation and control of all gaming activities in the state.
The second reading of the bill is scheduled to take place in two weeks.
