A police officer attached to the patrol unit of the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Sergeant Happy Atibaka, has received commendation for his honesty and professionalism after recovering and returning a misplaced bag containing valuable items to its rightful owner.

The incident occurred during a routine patrol when the officer discovered an unattended bag suspected to have been lost by a resident.

Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain two mobile phones, a substantial amount of cash, jewellery, and other personal valuables.

Rather than overlooking the discovery, Sergeant Atibaka reportedly initiated efforts to identify and locate the owner of the bag.

He later returned the recovered items intact alongside ASP Eko and Sergeant Ogwu Chisom, an action that drew appreciation from the owner, who praised the officers for their integrity, discipline, and dedication to duty.

The owner described the gesture as a commendable display of honesty and professionalism, noting that such conduct deserves public recognition and encouragement.

The development has also attracted positive reactions from residents and members of the public, many of whom said the officers’ conduct reflects the kind of responsible policing capable of improving public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

Observers further called on the leadership of the Force, including the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Delta State Police Command, and other relevant authorities to continue recognizing and rewarding officers who distinguish themselves through integrity, accountability, and exemplary public service.
