The Delta State Police Command has presented cheques totalling ₦25,405,226.57 to families and next-of-kin of 46 deceased police officers who served under the command.

The cheques were presented on Thursday, September 17, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, at the Command Headquarters in Asaba.

The payment represents claims under the welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force designed to provide financial assistance to families of officers who died while serving the nation.

Speaking during the presentation, CP Erale said the gesture reflected the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to the welfare of serving personnel and the families of fallen officers.

The Commissioner acknowledged that no financial compensation could replace the lives of the deceased officers, but noted that the intervention was intended to honour their sacrifices and provide support to the dependants they left behind.

He said the Command remained committed to ensuring that legitimate welfare and insurance claims due to families of deceased personnel were processed promptly.

CP Erale sympathised with the beneficiaries and urged them to judiciously utilise the funds, particularly for the welfare and education of children and other dependants of the deceased officers.

He also assured serving police personnel that the welfare of officers and their families remained a priority of the Nigeria Police Force.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Moses Evelyn Animi expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police for the intervention.

Animi said the beneficiaries were pleasantly surprised when they were contacted by the Command, noting that many of them had not expected the payment.

She commended the Nigeria Police Force for remembering the families of officers who lost their lives in the course of service and for providing support at a time when it was needed.

The presentation, according to the Command, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen its welfare mechanisms and support families of personnel who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
