The Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has reported exceptional performance in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collections for the 2025 fiscal year, surpassing its target and setting a new state record.
In his year-end report, Executive Chairman Hon. (Chief) Solomon Ighrakpata revealed that the IRS generated a total of N202,487,494,875.67, which translates to Two Hundred and Two Billion, Four Hundred and Eighty-Seven Million, Four Hundred and Ninety-Four Thousand, Eight Hundred and Seventy-Five Naira and Sixty-Seven Kobo.
This amount represents 151.01% of the set target of N134,092,848,109.00, or One Hundred and Thirty-Four Billion, Ninety-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Forty-Eight Thousand, One Hundred and Nine Naira.
This remarkable achievement reflects a 128.33% increase over the N157,785,188,072.55 collected in 2024.
Hon. Ighrakpata credited this success to the steadfast commitment of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to development and good governance.
He noted that visible infrastructure projects and ongoing security efforts have contributed to attracting investments and fostering voluntary tax compliance in the state.
The IRS Chairman also acknowledged the invaluable support from various stakeholders, including government agencies, revenue consultants, and taxpayers.
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State, for his political will and support, which have significantly bolstered our revenue efforts.
The infrastructure projects undertaken by His Excellency across the three Senatorial Districts and the initiatives aimed at security and peace-building have drawn considerable investments to the state and promoted a culture of voluntary tax compliance in line with existing laws,” said Ighrakpata.
He extended his appreciation to the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioners for Finance, Economic Planning, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Permanent Secretary and Accountant-General for their instrumental administrative support, which contributed to this success.
“I am immensely grateful to the members of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service Board, the Executive Directors, Management, and staff for their culture of collaboration, teamwork, hard work, and dedication, which have driven increased IGR collections since we assumed responsibility for revenue generation in July 2023.
“With the continued support of all relevant stakeholders, including the State Government, the Delta State Internal Revenue Service Board, our lead revenue consultants ICMA Professional Service and Zopaz Advisory Service, the State Assembly, the Judiciary, Ministries, Departments and Agencies of both the Federal and State Governments, Security Agencies, Revenue Collecting Banks, the Organized Private Sector, Professional Bodies, Unions, Trade Associations, Business Groups, Traditional Institutions, Local Government Authorities, and the Media, we will persist in our efforts to enhance IGR for the overall development of our great state,” Ighrakpata concluded.
