Delta Government Expresses Determination In Eradicating Illegal Migration, Human Trafficking

Delta State Government said it would continue harness every measure available to eradicate illegal migration and human trafficking in the state.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, restated the commitment on Wednesday July 28th 2021, in Asaba while playing host to Delta Task Force on Irregular Migration and Human trafficking and Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF) during a courtesy visit in Asaba.

Aniagwu, said that the ministry in collaboration with the Delta State Taskforce on Human Trafficking, which he is a member, would work in synergy with AYGF to achieve  the common goal of putting a stop to illegal migration and human trafficking.

He said that the state media outfits, comprising two television and radio stations and it prints media were open to publicize all the activities of the AYGF’s campaigns.

the information commissioner expressed satisfaction at the issue raised by AYGF’s campaign rally tagged MICC Nigeria, which will be holding in Asaba, adding that it was in line with the Stronger Delta agenda of the Okowa-led administration.

Aniagwu condemned acts capable of promoting illegal migration and human trafficking, saying that the need for the campaign could not be overemphasised, considering the negative effect on victims and the society in general.

“Alot of people who have toiled this path have found themselves in very disturbing situations and even some lost their lives. And these are manpower that is needed for the development that we earnestly yarn for in our country.

“So, any robust engagement targets at preventing irregular migration, and ensuring that we have good governance and also good public health is indeed a welcome development,” Aniagwu stated.

The commissioner said he was excited at the catch-them-young approach of the campaign, stressing that the campaigners would help to nip the menace of illegal migration and human trafficking in the bud.

Earlier, the Director-General of AYGF, Mr. Areme Salifu, stated that his organization had come up with a campaign tagged Migration Information and Communication Campaign (MICC).

Salifu explained that the campaign was aimed at exposing the facts against illegal migration and human trafficking for all to be acquainted with the dangers and make informed decisions not to be victims.
  
He   solicited the support of the ministry in publicizing the campaign, and congratulated the commissioner on his reappointment.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the State Task Force on Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration, Mrs. Ijeoma Nwanze, a lawyer, expressed appreciation to the commissioner for the audience, saying it would further strengthened the drive of the taskforce to succeed.

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation the foundation tracks and fliers prepared for the campaign and a group photograph.
