In a determined effort to combat flooding and promote a healthier urban environment, the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has commenced an extensive flood control operation across the capital territory.

The operation, which includes the desilting of drainage systems, removal of overgrown vegetation, and evacuation of debris to designated government dump sites, is a key component of the Agency’s strategy to enhance stormwater management and environmental sanitation.

Director-General of the DSCTDA, Chief Patrick Ukah, described the initiative as a critical element of the state government’s broader plan for flood prevention and urban cleanliness.

“This operation is essential to protecting lives, property, and vital infrastructure. Clearing our drains not only reduces the risk of flooding but also significantly improves public health across the territory,” Mr. Ukah stated.

He urged residents to support the exercise by avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal and adopting responsible environmental practices to sustain the gains of the intervention.

Leading the field operations is Mr. Isaac Nwosu, Head of Environment at the Agency, who emphasized the coordinated nature of the exercise.

“We are mobilizing teams across key areas to ensure thorough desilting and timely evacuation of waste to approved sites. Community involvement is a major part of this effort,” Nwosu noted.

The operation features a collaborative approach involving environmental health officers, sanitation workers, waste management contractors, and community volunteers, all working together to reduce flood hazards and enhance environmental quality.

The DSCTDA reaffirmed the Delta State Government’s commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more resilient capital territory, urging continued community cooperation in maintaining a sustainable urban environment.
