The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has reiterated the National Assembly’s firm commitment to the creation of Anioma State, confirming Asaba as its proposed capital.

He further assured that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains resolute in supporting the initiative.

Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing party stakeholders at the South-South Zonal Congress of the All Progressives Congress held in Asaba.

In outlining the proposed restructuring, the Senate President disclosed that Warri would serve as the capital of the reconfigured Delta State, citing its strategic advantages, including an airport, seaport, presence of major oil firms, and well-established administrative infrastructure.

The high-level gathering attracted governors from across the South-South region, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River States, alongside influential party leaders and stakeholders.

Describing the agitation for Anioma State as both compelling and historically grounded, Akpabio noted that the demand reflects longstanding calls for equity, improved governance, and balanced regional development.

He emphasized that the proposal, championed by Ned Nwoko, has continued to receive robust legislative attention and ranks among the priority considerations of the 10th Senate.

According to him, the eventual creation of Anioma State would deliver significant socio-economic dividends, including enhanced decentralization and accelerated grassroots development through the emergence of two viable sub-national entities.

“Anioma State will be created, with Asaba as its capital. The Senate fully supports the initiative spearheaded by Senator Ned Nwoko.

“This development will herald a new phase of growth and shared prosperity for the people,” Akpabio stated, adding that Warri would become the capital of the new Delta State.

He further called for unity and stronger regional cohesion, urging stakeholders to sustain their support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, aimed at fostering national integration, economic growth, and overall well-being.

In a separate interaction with journalists, Senator Nwoko described the push for Anioma State as a collective and patriotic aspiration of the people.

He commended the people of Delta North, the National Assembly, and other stakeholders for their continued support, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to seeing the project through.
