Former Delta State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta North senatorial candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has asked the people of Ndokwa Nation to demand accountability from him if elected to represent the district in the Senate in 2027.
Okowa made the call on Saturday in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, during an interactive engagement organised by the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), where his senatorial aspiration received the union’s endorsement.
The gathering also featured the adoption of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the gathering, Okowa said effective representation should be built around regular engagement with constituents and a clear understanding of their concerns.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to provide an avenue for the people to articulate their aspirations and discuss issues affecting their communities.
“Meaningful representation begins with listening,” Okowa said, stressing that constituents should have the opportunity to contribute to discussions concerning their future.
The former governor appealed for support for his senatorial bid and the APC candidates, but said such support should be accompanied by accountability.
“I ask you to mobilise support for me and for our party, the All Progressives Congress candidates; but beyond your support, I also ask that you hold me accountable when I am in office,” he said.
Okowa also pledged to maintain a strong relationship with Ndokwa communities, leaders and stakeholders, saying such a connection would enable him to communicate the needs of the people effectively and pursue solutions through the appropriate authorities.
He further recalled some of the projects and political appointments associated with his administration, while attributing whatever achievements were recorded to God.
The former governor urged women and youths in Ndokwa to participate actively in educating and mobilising the people on the importance of effective representation.
He said his objective, if elected, would be to provide a voice for the people of Delta North in the Senate and work with communities towards addressing their developmental concerns.
Onyeme, Others Seek Support for APC Candidates
Speaking at the event, Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, urged the people of Ndokwa to remain united and support the APC candidates at the federal and state levels.
Onyeme said the APC’s control of the federal government provided an opportunity for the people to participate in the political process and pursue development through effective representation.
He also highlighted some projects and political appointments associated with Okowa’s administration, particularly those involving Ndokwa communities.
The Deputy Governor urged the people to sustain their support for the party and its candidates, while advocating unity and collective action.
Rear Admiral Mike Onah (rtd.), OON, also called on Ndokwa people to remain involved in mainstream politics.
Onah expressed support for the APC candidates and said the people should work towards securing representation across the various levels of government.
NNU: Representation Must Be Accountable
The President-General of the Ndokwa Neku Union, Chief Amechi Asugwuni, said the union recognised the importance of electing representatives who understood the aspirations and developmental needs of the people.
Asugwuni said effective development required cooperation between leaders and citizens, adding that accountability and open communication should remain central to the relationship.
He urged members of the union to remain peaceful, united and committed to democratic participation.
“We encourage all members of the Ndokwa Neku Union to remain united, peaceful, and committed to the democratic process; let us engage constructively, participate responsibly, and ensure that the interests and aspirations of Ndokwa remain central to our discussions,” he said.
Other speakers, including Professor Julie Nwabogo Umukoro and Community Development Committee chairmen from different communities, also expressed support for the APC candidates.
The event was attended by Chief Goodwill Obielum, Barrister Sam Osasa, General Mike Ndubisi, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, Hon. Charles Emetulu, Pastor Chuks Agidigbo, traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth representatives, among others.
