…Non-indigenes pledge support for APC candidates ahead of Delta North senatorial election
Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has received endorsements from members of the Arewa and Yoruba communities in Asaba and Oko, Oshimili South Local Government Area, ahead of his reported bid to represent Delta North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
The endorsements were announced on Sunday when the two communities separately hosted members of the Okowa Senatorial Campaign Organisation, led by its Director-General, Hon. Pascal Adigwe.
Addressing members of the Arewa community in Oko, Adigwe described Okowa as a former governor whose experience in public administration and record in governance, according to the campaign organisation, would be relevant to his proposed legislative ambition.
He highlighted the former governor’s administration’s investments in social infrastructure, human capital development and peace-building, urging the community to support his aspiration to represent Delta North at the National Assembly.
Adigwe, who disclosed that Okowa was seeking the APC ticket, also acknowledged the development efforts of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, under the Renewed Hope Agenda and M.O.R.E Agenda respectively.
He particularly referenced the Federal Government’s economic reforms and the Oborevwori administration’s infrastructure projects, describing them as key areas of their respective development programmes.
Other members of the campaign delegation, including Barr. Ikechukwu Maduemezia and Hon. Sunny Obi, called on the residents to extend their support to APC candidates across all elective positions, from the presidency to the State House of Assembly.
Responding, the Chairman of the Arewa Community in Asaba and head of the Delta State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Auwul Turkur, said the community’s position was informed by its assessment of the political developments and the performance of the APC-led administrations.
Turkur assured the delegation of the community’s readiness to mobilise support for Okowa and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Other Arewa leaders, including Alhaji Abdullahi Suleman, Baba Rabiu, Abdul-Kadir Madaki and Lawal Iman, also expressed their commitment to supporting the party, pledging to mobilise non-indigenes across the state capital territory.
The campaign team subsequently proceeded to Asaba, where it held a separate engagement with members of the Yoruba community, who also expressed support for the APC and its candidates.
Addressing the gathering, Adigwe and other members of the delegation emphasised the importance of political participation and grassroots mobilisation in achieving the party’s objectives in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking on behalf of the Yoruba community, its leader in Delta State, Asiwaju Famour Maroof Lawal, alongside Dr. Yunus Adekola, Chief Otunba Fafowora, Babatunde Ismail and Madam Eunice Funke Aniche, commended the APC-led governments for their respective development initiatives.
The Yoruba leaders also pledged their support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid and the party’s other candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The separate engagements form part of the Okowa Senatorial Campaign Organisation’s ongoing consultations with community leaders and interest groups across Delta North as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
