Delta state government has expressed confidence in the activities of the state security outfit, “Operation Delta Hawk”, established by the government to tackle rising insecurity across the state.

“Operation Delta Hawk in this very short period has done so well in bursting crimes”, pointing out that the issue of security is not what is placed on the public domain, “but I can tell you that we don’t have regrets setting up Operation Delta Hawk, they are doing quite well”.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, dropped the hint while speaking with Journalists on Friday 22nd January 2021, on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held in Asaba.

The government expressed hope that the security outfit should find ways of perfecting their operational guidelines while meeting with the target for which they were setup, especially in reduction of crime and keeping the state safer than it was when they were inaugurated.

On the woman who was killed by an operative of the security outfit, Aniagwu disclosed: “Government has met with the family and we are dealing with it. We have been able to reach out to them. Of course no matter what you do, you cannot be able to pay for the life of anybody.

“But what is quite clear is that it wasn’t intentional and that because of that too, the leadership of Operation Delta Hawk have also been engaged as to advancing the operational procedure of the outfit with a view to dealing with criminalities without allowing temper to rise”, he added.

Meanwhile, on what the government has discovered from the woman and her baby that was killed at PTI Junction, Uvwie local government area of the state, he said: “It was just day before yesterday the directive was given. Of course, we have been able to ascertain that indeed it was somebody who was more or like trying to escape from the police that caused the unfortunate death of the mother and the child.

“They have also been arrested and they also have confessed as to what happened to when they were stopped and how they needed to proceed and unfortunately what happened, happened”.

He regretted that even if it were to be the police or anybody, “that death was quite unfortunate. We would not want to lose anybody let alone losing them in the manner in which that mother and child met their untimely deaths”, assuring that until the report was turned in government would know how to prosecute the matter.
