The Delta State Police Command has intensified its offensive against violent crime with the recovery of three pump-action guns, three suspected stolen motorcycles and the arrest of five suspects in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers involved in the operations, describing the successes as a reflection of the Command’s unwavering commitment to tackling violent crime and safeguarding lives and property.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, the first breakthrough occurred on July 27, 2026, when operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, intercepted one Joseph Tyavzua during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway.
The suspect, who was travelling on a commercial motorcycle to Onitsha, was found in possession of a pump-action gun.
Although he claimed to be a member of a vigilante group, he was unable to provide any lawful authorization for possessing the firearm.
The weapon was recovered, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation carried out on the same day, operatives of the Ekpan Division arrested four suspects following a report of an armed robbery involving a commercial motorcyclist along Jakpa Road, Effurun.
The suspects, identified as Edodo Gift (41) and Emoefe Solomon (27), were apprehended after a targeted investigation.
During interrogation, they reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to two suspected receivers, Fodio Bello (27) and Kabiru Mohammed (25), at Otowhe, near Oleh.
The operation resulted in the recovery of two additional pump-action guns and three motorcycles suspected to have been stolen during robbery operations.
All four suspects are currently in custody, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.
Reacting to the successful operations, CP Oyeniyi praised the professionalism and dedication of the officers, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven policing and ensure that criminal elements have no safe haven in Delta State.
He also appealed to residents to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime across the state.
