Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, a region long troubled by recurring inter-community tensions, was again thrown into turmoil on Friday, November 29, 2025, following fresh clashes involving the Wurkum, Shomo, and Karimjo communities.

The renewed violence, consistent with the area’s history of destructive skirmishes, resulted in loss of life, destruction of property, and a wave of displacement across several settlements.

The overnight incident left one person dead, while multiple homes, stored food items, and other valuables were set ablaze, forcing terrified residents to flee to nearby communities for safety.

In an immediate response, the Vice Chairman of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Hon. Uba MunYarda, representing the Council Chairman, Virginia Baba Bambur, visited Ngamu, Manaru and other affected communities to assess the extent of damage and commiserate with victims.

Visibly disturbed by the scale of destruction, MunYarda condemned the persistent cycle of violence that continues to hold the LGA back, stressing that “no society can make progress under the shadow of fear, hostility, and constant conflict.”

He urged all parties to de-escalate tensions and embrace dialogue, insisting that peace remains the only credible path to stability and development.

MunYarda assured residents that the government is monitoring the situation closely and implementing measures to prevent further breakdown of order.

He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting victims and working with security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

“At this critical moment, unity, understanding, and genuine dialogue remain the most powerful tools for healing and rebuilding,” he said, calling on community leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders to actively champion peace and resist any actions that may inflame the fragile situation.

Karim Lamido has, since the early 1990s, remained a recurring flashpoint of land-related disputes among diverse communities, a situation that continues unabated despite repeated appeals, interventions, and security deployments.
